Chattanooga State plans to increase its health science students by 40% in the coming years.
The school broke ground on a new Health Science Center Monday.
The college received a $28.5 million award from the state to build the center.
It needs to raise a few million more for equipment.
President Dr. Jim Catanzaro says the building represents a major change for the college and the community by addressing the need for healthcare workers.
He hopes the new center will be ready by August of 2010.
