Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue Monday signed an executive order suspending the state sales tax on diesel sold for off-road uses, like farming, until January.
The state charges a four-percent sales tax for off-road diesel, which is
dyed red to differentiate it from the on-road variety.
The Georgia Farm Bureau pushed for the tax break to help struggling farmers.
The move is expected to cost the state between two and four-million-dollars in lost revenue.
Here in the Chattanooga area, Triple A reports diesel selling for a record $4.26 Monday.
The average price of regular also set another record today, $3.56 a gallon.
That's up a penny from Sunday.
