You'll soon see some Chattanooga meter maids sporting a new ride.

The city approved the purchase of three Toyota hybrid vehicles.

The switch comes as gas prices continue to rise near the 4-dollar mark.

Toyota reports the Prius Sedan can get about 50 miles to the gallon inside the city

Paul Page, Director of General Services for the city adds, "It just seemed the logical route instead of leaving the engine running while they citing someone for illegal parking that once you stop this vehicle it stops, nothing is left running and when you go again it's on electric power and you don't burn fuel."

The cars will be tested out for a year.

If the city approves, they'll purchase more.
