Weather and More from Brian Smith

Hey guys and gals, glad you could stop by. I thought I would jump into the blogging world and have a chance to have a little fun with history, events, facts, stories and yes, mostly weather. I've had a personal blog for over a year and a half, but this time it will be a little more community based. That’s right I am looking forward to hearing from you. Sometimes the best weather reports come from you. We hear it, feel it, see it, chase it, get chased by it, happy to see it, angry at it, we all live it. I look forward to sharing pictures, video, stories or just a weather report from you. I will post as many as I can and yes, some will be shown on TV. Do you have a beautiful or just interesting weather picture...send it to me a bsmith@wdef.com. You can just email me a report, like how much rain you get tonight and tomorrow.

It will be fun.

I will start off with a little history for you.

On this day back in 1994 the east coast was hit with around 2 feet of snow, and in east TN about 6 inches. Several roads were closed. Do you remember that? The guys a the NWS have done a good job with keeping up with history and I will be glad to bring this to you daily along with a few facts a comments from Patrick Core.

It’s hard to talk snow when it’s been so WARM! I had to take advantage of the day yesterday as the high in Chattanooga was 58. I got a chance to do a little grilling.(that explains the picture on top of the blog). On a side note, grilling is a passion of mine(those are stuffed pork chops, mmmm). Looks like dinner inside today since it's so gloomy, even though we made it to a high of 60. Murphy, NC made it all the way to 70! I don't look for temps to fall much tonight as a storm moving our way pulls in plenty of warm and moist air. Cover that grill tonight because another soaker is on the way! Here are rainfall total for tonight and Friday...

Rainfall TOTALS for tonight through Friday evening.

A half an inch to a inch not out of the question. More to the west. I believe it looking at the Titan Radar. The rains should become scattered into Friday afternoon with a few showers holding on into the evening. Even though we will get a good rain, our highs will remain warm as we reach the mid 60s for highs. Average this time of the year is 49! Winds will kick up on your Friday, especially in the higher elevations.

Not a lot of cold air being pulled in behind this system as we dry out for Saturday and highs reach the mid 60s again. I know it's unual but no records are being broken.

Here they are:

Friday:71 in 2005

Saturday: 71 in 1950

Another Soaker or as Luther would say "Goat Floater" for Sunday with cooler temps on the way...well more seasonable at least. Here are Sunday's Rain totals...

Sunday's Rainfall Totals

We average about 5.40" inches in January and with these two storms, we could be close to half way there. By Monday we fall back into the upper 40s and low 50s and another chance to dry out.

See you soon...

Brian

What happened to the photo contest? I sent you some pictures by snail mail for the Barn Nursery photo contest and now I don't see or hear anything about it?

Thanks for giving folks from the area a place to show off our weather pics. I have a few saved up and will post soon.

Keep up the good work Brian.
