The noise from a smoke detector saved one life, and made a hero out of another.

"I'm serious man, all I did was help get the lady out," says 27-year-old Quinn Hixson.

Hixson is modest, but to the Cleveland Fire Department, he's a life saver.

Thursday night Quinn and another resident Johnathan Gatlin noticed smoke pouring out from under their neighbors door on Ocoee Street.

Then they heard the smoke detector.

"We got the door broke down," says Hixson. "After we got the door broke down we seen the lady laying on the steps."

57-year-old Diana Goins had fallen trying to escape her home. When Hixson and Gatlin found her she was unconscious and overwhelmed by the smoke .

"I think if anyone was in my situation they'd do the same thing. It's just instinct. I mean it's just a reaction. It happened so quick. Just make sure no one else was in there," he says.

Fire Chief Chuck Atchley says the fire started in Goins bedroom.

"These two gentlemen probably saved this woman's life. They took it upon themselves to perform an action that not many people do and not many people are faced with the decision

Hixson says Goins was released from the hospital Friday morning and it doing fine.

The Fire Department blames the fire on a burning candle.
