An earthquake shook parts of Whitfield County Monday night -- yet no one seems to have felt it.
It happened just north of Beaverdale in the northeast corner of the county around 6:30pm.
The Whitfield 911 center didn't receive any calls and no reports of damage.
Emergency Management Agency Director Jeffrey Putnam says he was surprised no one reported the two point eight quake.
Putnam says, "Absolutely no calls, which, in comparison to the one several months ago, which was a 2.4 in the same area, we received several calls on it. This one we received no calls at all."
Putnam says the earthquake was nearly nine kilometers beneath the surface.
This might explain why it went virtually unnoticed.
