It seems that lately, global warming reports have somewhat...cooled. Recent scientific studies have debunked several earlier claims made by the IPCC along with aother reports that make it to the mainstream media and Hollywood.
These new reports took a backseat to a recent news release from NOAA and The U.S. Climate Change Science Program. The report says, with confidence:
“Among the major findings reported in this assessment are that droughts, heavy downpours, excessive heat, and intense hurricanes are likely to become more commonplace as humans continue to increase the atmospheric concentrations of heat-trapping greenhouse gases.”

This report ran ramped through the media and has numerous scientist and meteorologist outside the government screaming bias. I spoke with James Spann from ABC 33/40 in Birmingham who has gained national recognition for being against human influenced global warming. Simply put, he told me “The CCSP report is on the edge of lunacy.”
In recent post on alabamawx.com, Spann wrote: [2]
“The simple truth is that the anthropogenic global warming train has slowed to a crawl, and the riders are jumping off as the facts are discovered.
What is the truth? Lets begin with something we all can agree on. The climate IS changing. It has always changed, it is changing now, and it will always change.
Beyond that, here are some simple facts that make those left on the global warming train very uncomfortable:
*The earth is no warmer now than it was in 1998.
*Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, but a gas indispensable to plant life. Plants, in turn, release oxygen, which sustains animal and human life.
*The primary greenhouse gas is water vapor, not carbon dioxide.
*The lack of solar activity in recent months suggests global cooling might be our biggest potential climate change problem in coming years.
*The planet has had weather disasters, extremes, and anomalies since it has been here. We just didn’t have 24 hour news channels and the Internet in prior decades to spread the news.”
Karl Bohnak, Chief Meteorologist from WLUC in MI didn’t hold anything back in a recent blog post: [3]
“At one time scientists developed theories and then used experiments and observation in an impartial way to prove or disprove these theories. Now we have government-employed scientists who cherry-pick evidence and data to support their viewpoint.”
Mike Smith, CEO of WeatherData Services inc, a certified consulting meteorologist and a member of the American Meteorological Society put the numbers together after reading the CCSP report suggesting the recent floods in Iowa could be contributed to human induced global warming.
In his report he writes: [4]
“This is fear mongering, not the advancement of science. And, it detracts from NOAA as a whole because its National Weather Service performed heroically - with its field staff working long hours coping with the floods and accompanying tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.
It is unseemly to work to score public relations points when people are losing their homes, their crops, and their lives.
And, it leaves us to ponder a key question: Does the science justify tying the Midwest floods to Global Warming? My answer? An emphatic “no.”
He goes on to show that the flooding came after a period of cooling: [5]
“The record Midwest floods of 1993 and 2008 occurred after periods of rapid cooling. The warmest year, 1998, did not have Midwest floods anywhere near the magnitude of those in 1993 and 2008. It is my judgment the attempt to link the 2008 floods to Global “Warming” is completely unjustified.”
John Coleman THE FOUNDER OF THE WEATHER CHANNEL, had this to say in a recent posting:
"It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM." Full post, here. [6]
As I have said before, we can’t believe everything we see or hear. We have to do a little research. There is always both sides to the story. While I am all for a cleaner, greener planet, I will stick to forecasting 7 days out which is hard enough. Forecasting 50-500 years out is just seems impossible. We are constantly bombarded with the images of flooding, tornadoes, heat and the threat of hurricanes and after while these images stick with you. It is never easy seeing disaster unfold right before your eyes. But when I am asked why so many, or are there more disasters than ever before due to global warming my answer is no, and there is science to back it up. Can you imagine the 24hour coverage of the Dust Bowl in the 1930s? The 24hour coverage of the Galveston, TX Hurricane in 1900? The 24hour coverage of the Tri-State Tornadoes in 1925 or the outbreak of 1974? Or the Storm of the Century in 1950 and the list goes on... [7] I guess we have to make up our own minds. What do you think?
See you soon,
Brian
