The lack of a sales tax plus special savings lure shoppers to North Georgia stores Thursday.
Georgia's four day sales tax holiday got underway just after midnight.
The tax break applies to "back to school" items, like pencils, pens and paper, as well as clothes, computers and computer accessories.
Sherron Rominger drove from home in Ooltewah to the Wal-Mart in Fort Oglethorpe just to save some cash at the register, "It started before Tennessee's sales tax day and I've got 3 girls in school and I want to save money."
Tennessee and Alabama join in the sales tax holiday beginning at 12:01 Friday morning.
