Hundreds of people went to see a doctor Saturday, but it was not at a hospital.
The RAM Clinic provided free dental and vision care at Cleveland High school to under insured and uninsured people.
WDEF News 12's Mandy Odom has more from Bradley County.
Victoria Brock is raising her two great-grandchildren.
She's retired and on disability.
Her income is $890 a month.
She has insurance, but it doesn't cover vision and dental care.
Brock says, "Without this health thing, without this vision and dental, I couldn't go to an eye doctor. I couldn't go to a dentist. I don't have a dime extra in my income. I can't afford to go have a cleaning, let alone a filling or a crown or an extraction. There's no money in my budget for this."
Brock says she's appalled at all the people who need help, but amazed by all the volunteers who gave of their time and money to help them.
Oral surgeon Dr. Paul McCord says he does charity work all the time.
"It's always interesting to me, is that everyone wants to do a mission trip to somebody that's way off, but how about a mission trip for somebody that's right here," McCord says.
That's the idea with Rural America or the RAM Clinic to help people right here.
Organizers recruit doctors, volunteers, and donations from all over the U.S.
State Director Ron Brewer says he loves doing it and helping people especially with the health care crisis.
He says, "We'll do our part and then these folks that are getting their glasses, getting their teeth taken care of will be back out working."
He says the people are very thankful for the care, giving him hugs and pats on the back.
Victoria Brock says it doesn't just help her, but her great grandkids.
She says, "They need their nana to be in as good of health as she can be."
