Boyd 1 [0]Minutes before kick off last week, quarterback Nic Hughes stuck his head out of the Bucs locker room to catch a glimpse of visiting Westmoreland.

"We looked back out [of the locker room], and they were stomping on the logo out there, breaking it down on our logo. That got everybody fired up a little bit."

"You don't go in anywhere stomping on somebody's logo," adds defensive lineman Cole Webster, "and when I heard that it made me go crazy. I got everybody riled up."

Webster and the "riled up" Bucs defense shut out the Westmoreland Eagles, 34-0.

Boyd 2 [1]Webster says every time the defense holds a team to a donut on the score board, the team gets treated to real donuts after the game.

"We've just tried to be relentless, and relentlessness is our motto, and we've done well with that," says Webster.

The Bucs defense allowed a little over 12 points a game in the regular season. Their high point of the year was going on the road and holding the South Pittsburg Pirates to just one touchdown. The Bucs lost that defensive test, 7-6.

"I don't like to say it was a good loss, but it was a timely loss in that it got us refocused and get us back to some of the basics," says head coach Grant Reynolds.

boyd 3 [1]In a rematch, Boyd will face the Marion County Eagles in the quarterfinals. The Bucs won their first contest in September by just a point.

"Our defense gave up 20 points," recalls Hughes. "That doesn't happen a lot. Our defense will play like they always do and if our offense can get a touchdown or two, I say we'll win the game."

A good performance out of the defense and the Bucs may be headed to the semi-finals. A really good performance means a trip to the semi's--and donuts to help celebrate.
