3 Tornadoes in Our Area this Past Weekend.

The National Weather Service has completed it’s preliminary survey of damage reported in Sequatchie County, Dekalb County, AL and Franklin County, TN from Saturday night’s storms. The NWS has confirmed that in all three cases, they were indeed tornadoes. 

In SE Tennessee: 

In Sequatchie County, the NWS concluded that an EF-0 Tornado with winds of 80mph struck 2 miles SE of Dunlap near Lewis RD. Path was a mile long with tree damage and significant damage to a garage.

For NE Alabama and South Central TN:

FULL SURVEY FOUND HERE INCLUDING PICTURES! [1]

According to the NWS a EF-1 Tornado near the town of Valley Head, AL at 8:16pm CDT Saturday night: 

AN EF-1 TORNADO WITH A PEAK WIND OF 105 MPH...PATH LENGTH OF 2.6 MILES...AND A MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH OF 50 YARDS. NUMEROUS LARGE PINES AND OTHER TREES WERE SNAPPED AND UPROOTED ALONG COUNTY ROADS 610 AND 885...ABOUT 4 MILES WEST OF VALLEY HEAD. A LARGE TREE FELL ON A HOUSE ALONG COUNTY ROAD 885 CAUSING SIGNIFICANT ROOF DAMAGE. TREES WERE ALSO UPROOTED ALONG COUNTY ROAD 608 AND ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WAS FOUND NEAR HIGHWAY 11 AND BETHEL ROAD...JUST SOUTH OF HAMMONDVILLE.” 

The NWS also confirmed an EF-1 Tornado near the town of Huntland, TN at 7:01pm CDT Saturday night.

AN EF-1 TORNADO WITH A PEAK WIND OF 90 MPH...PATH LENGTH OF 1.5 MILES...AND A MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH OF 60 YARDS. NUMEROUS TREES WERE SNAPPED WITH SEVERAL CEDAR TRUNKS UPROOTED ALONG A PATH NORTH OF HIGHWAY 64 BETWEEN HUNTLAND AND MAXWELL. SHINGLES AND ROOF PANELS WERE PEELED BACK TO A HOME AND A BARN ALONG STRATTON ROAD AND PLEASANT RIDGE ROAD NEAR BRANCHVILLE.

A more comprehensive survey will be released soon.
