Coyote Control

kOver the past week, we've been telling you about Red Bank residents complaining about coyotes.

The growing problem has the gotten the attention of city officials.

And one family is now depending on an expert for advice. Wildlife Removal Specialist Tanner Flowers: "look how it looks like someone has been walking there perfectly...you can even see broken sticks..see how that's kind of beaten down right there?"

The animal markings are all around this home in Red Bank.

Flowers says, "You can see places like this where they've been digging..see how that's all pushed out?"

Flowers was brought to the home at the request of Detective Ike Cooper with the Red Bank Police Department after John Farr's family dog was killed by coyotes.

Cooper says, "When we can't get involved as a city we want to give them the foundations to get the equipment and means to solve their problem."

But with animals like coyotes, Flowers says he's job isn't solving the problem.

He compares coyote removal to that of insect control - t's just that - control. Flowers says, "You can do some sort of trapping method, maybe quarterly and keep it under control but you're never going to eliminate the coyotes." I

nstead, Flowers gives tips to families who have problems or see signs of coyotes in and around their home.

Like any animal, coyotes are attracted to a food source.

He says start there. Flowers says, "Keep all your trash put away nice and tight...don't leave any raw meats outside..that's going to lure them in."

But the best method Flowers says might cost at little more -"if they had a fence about this high off the ground and every six inches...they're not going to be able to get through b/c they're going to get shocked." And just like raccoons Flowers says coyotes are pretty brazen animals. He says while mainly nocturnal..seeing them in the daytime is not unheard of.
