A TORNADO Watch has been issued for North Georgia and NE Alabama until 7pm eastern time, as Round 3 of the storms continue to march to the east across Alabama and south TN, some with a history of warnings.

At the same time, low-level winds are kicking in helping to fuel the storms and adding a twist to the atmosphere. There have been reports of a funnel cloud outside of Huntsville with numerous tornado warnings issued. As this line moves in, the severe weather threat will continue, especially into AL and north GA. Damaging winds and heavy rain will be the main threats however isolated tornadoes are possible. The Storm Prediction Center has included the entire area under a “Slight” risk noted below.

The other, more widespread issue continues to be the rain. An additional 1-2” of rain possible as the next wave moves through. Thankfully it’s moving rather quickly. Numerous Flood and Flash Flood warnings have been issued due to the rain this morning. Many locations received a good inch on top of the already saturated ground. Flood Watches remain in effect for everyone through tonight due to the impending heavy rain. Please be careful with many roadways wet and runoff of area streams and hillsides. If you see water over the road, please TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.
The rain will end later this afternoon into tonight, but more scattered storms are possible Thursday afternoon. Another round of heavy rain could arrive Friday Morning and again on Saturday with the stationary front responsible for today’s rain, hanging around. Flooding will be a concern through the weekend.
