Republican Robin Smith is running for Congress.

Smith kicked off her race for the 3rd congressional district Wednesday.  That's the seat being vacated by Zach Wamp.

The former Chair of Tennessee's Republican Party spent the day touring the 3rd district, starting in Copperhill.

Smith says her experience as a former nurse and as a mother make her the right candidate.  "We want to take the third congressional district from success to significance in our economic growth and output and I think that we have a great formula that's already here and I just want to be a good part of that," she said at Wally's Restaurant.

She cites national security, healthcare and runaway deficit spending as her top three priorities.

Smith, her husband and two children live in Hixson.
