An annual picnic held for supporters of Congressman Zach Wamp, could be one of the most important Labor Day gatherings of his political career.
Wamp is running for Governor of Tennessee this year.
He shared his vision for the state.
WDEF News 12's Mandy Odom has more in our top local story.
This is the 14th year for the barbeque at the Coker Farm.
Hundreds of people gathered for the celebration, and to support Congressman Zach Wamp in his campaign for Tennessee Governor.
Many people already have a few issues for Wamp to address.
Supporter Tonya Dyer says, "More jobs in the area. I mean, it's real hard right now for a lot of people in this area, and also with the healthcare for people with kids and families' that's needing more healthcare and jobs. I think that would be a great thing to help in this area."
Supporter Colin Howerton says, "We really need to make sure that we keep our constitutional rights."
Supporter Eva Jo Smith "Be willing to fight for what he knows that we would need to have done for Tennessee."
Congressman Wamp says he's committed to the future of Tennessee and has a 2020 vision for the state for the next 10 years.
He wants to have a healthier Tennessee, with kids reading earlier, and more economic growth.
Wamp says, "I want the state production economy, agriculture, manufacturing, to do what Chattanooga's area has done; which is new technology driven manufacturing."
Wamp says he has the most experience in economic development to help the state grow.
The weather at the barbeque didn't hold for Wamp to give a long speech, but his supporters hung with him until the end as they will continue to do.
Howerton says, "Zach stands for the values and the leadership of East Tennessee. I've lived here all my life, and I really feel as though Zach is, you know, he stands for me and he's someone that I love to support and can't wait to see in the governor's office."
Wamp says, "We need a vision for the next ten years. Where we're going, not just managing today's problems, but where's the vision? Where's our state going? That separates me from these other candidates. That's why we're winning."
In Chattanooga, Mandy Odom, WDEF News 12.
If Wamp wins, he'll be the first governor from Southeast Tennessee in over 100 years.
It would also give Chattanooga both a governor and a senator at the same time.
