The Hamilton County Health Department got its first shipment of the injectable H1N1 vaccines.

The 1300 doses are available by appointment for kids 6 months to 4 years old.

The nasal vaccine contains weakened live flu virus.

Health Department Administrator Becky Barnes says it can't give you the flu.

She adds we're used to taking live virus vaccines.

Becky Barnes, Hamilton Co. Health Dept., "Many vaccines that we already give for childhood vaccinations are live viruses. Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, those are all live viruses that all childhood, I mean school aged children already take so the live virus is not new."

Barnes says the H1N1 vaccine is not new either.

It's produced the same way as the yearly seasonal flu shot.

It just fights a new strain of the virus.

Phone lines for appointments open 8:30 tomorrow morning for the injectable vaccines.

Call 208-8393 to make an appointment.
