4/23/07 From Chattanooga to Cali...what a trip on the open road!

 Route 66

Ahh, nearly 2600 miles on the road and I am back. Many can say 2600 miles cannot be a relaxing vacation, but to us it was. We drove from Chattanooga, Friday the 13th till we hit our destination just outside of Needles, CA on Thursday afternoon the 19th. Most of the trip was on “The Mother Road”, better known as Route 66. We met folks from the States to Norway and Australia taking the same lonely but beautiful stretch of highway. 66 had deserts, mountains, snow, rain, sand, tumbleweeds, wildlife, neon, ghost towns, petrified wood, old motels, old restaurants, old gas stations where you still had to pay cash, gimmicks to make you stop, old zoos, 72oz steak, friendly faces, unique attractions…basically the sole of America wrapped up into one long paved paradise. We missed a good portion of 66 from Springfield, MO to Chicago and Needles to L.A. but my wife, Rebecca and I got a chance to see what most of 66 had to offer, and what good people are like across this great country of ours.

Funny thing is, we mailed our taxes along the way in Adrian, TX, but after driving through a good portion of the U.S. I felt great, giving my money to this land as this country has given us the freedom to hit the open road.

I am going to try to post a video of pictures from our trip to give you a chance to see what we experienced. I will work on this over the next couple of days since we took about 500 pictures!

I am happy to be back, but what a memory.  I can only imagine the hardships, but the happiness of those travelers back in the day who still had the dream of heading west but with a 57 Chevy.

See you soon,

Brian

Route 66

Hi, Brian.

My husband and I are long-time fans / travelers of The Mother Road. We picked up a copy of Route 66 Pulse in Kingman, AZ last summer, and I am just now checking out your blob from April, 2007, which was mentioned in that publication.

My question is: did you ever post additional pictures from your trip? If yes, how can I access, and view, them?

Thanks, Brian!

BTW: We are considering attending a big RV Rally along the Route next April. LMK if you would like additional information. :-))
