The Tennessee Aquarium [0]The Tennessee Aquarium   This era begins with both the Choo-Choo and Read House flirting with bankrupcy.  TVA lays off 7000 people. By the end, the Riverfront is re-made, Livability has gone up, and people are moving back downtown.

 

1988    VP Al Gore dubs Chattanooga “The Environmental City” (see "Dirtiest City" story)

1988    TVA lays off  7000 workers

1989    Grant Adcox dies in crash at Atlanta Journal 500

1992    Tennessee Aquarium Opens (see story)

1993    "The Blizzard" 17" inches of snow

1993    Walnut Street bridge reopens as longest pedestrian bridge in the country

1996    Reggie White wins Super Bowl with Packers

1996    Terrell Owens leaves UTC

1997    Finley Stadium opens

1997    UTC basketball team makes Sweet 16

1997    Easter Tornado

1999    Chattanooga Times and News-Free Press merge

2000    AT&T Field opens (bell south park)

2003    Worst Flood in 30 years

2005    Waterfront Revitalization/The Passage

2007    99 years after it's construction, City Hall reopens after rennovation- new time capsule put in cornerstone (see story)
