Attorneys for a minister accused in an assault on his estranged televangelist wife say he will speak out today.
The lawyers say Thomas Weeks the Third had held out hope that he and Juanita Bynum could reconcile even after she filed a petition for divorce on Monday, but now he has decided not to stand in the way.
Instead, they say the case would be submitted as an uncontested divorce and could be resolved within 31 days from the date the case started under Georgia law.
The 48-year-old Bynum's divorce attorney, Karla Walker, is withdrawing the divorce petition filed in Ware County, where Bynum has a home, and re-filing the case in Gwinnett County, where Weeks lives.
Weeks is facing charges of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats related to an August 21st incident where Bynum claims he choked, pushed and stomped her in a hotel parking lot after the couple failed to reconcile.
Bynum is head of a ministry that also includes a gospel record label and successful seminar tours.
The 40-year-old Weeks is head of Global Destiny Ministries, based in Duluth.
