College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - University of Maryland assistant coach Dalonte Hill has resigned, effectively immediately.

While Maryland's official press release didn't state a reason for the resignation, Hill was charged last month with his third DUI in five years and took a leave of absences from the program.

"We appreciate Dalonte's contributions to our program the past three years," head coach Mark Turgeon said in Wednesday's statement. "We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."

This was Hill's third season with the Terps' program. A native of Washington, D.C., he came to Maryland from Kansas State, where he was hired by former head coach Bob Huggins in April 2006 after three seasons at Charlotte. He was elevated to associate head coach and recruiting coordinator just over a year later upon the promotion of Frank Martin to head coach.

With Hill gone, Maryland promoted Dustin Clark to assistant coach and named former Terps star Juan Dixon special assistant to the head coach.

Dixon led the Terps to the national title in 2002, garnering numerous accolades, including Associated Press consensus First Team All-America, ACC Player of the Year and NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player. He also spent seven seasons in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons.

"We're excited to welcome Juan back to College Park," Turgeon said. "He is one of the most decorated and celebrated player in Terrapin history. Juan's diverse experience playing professionally in the NBA combined with his passion for Maryland basketball makes him a very strong addition to our program."

Dixon's responsibilities will include scouting and film breakdown, academic support and mentorship and additional administrative duties.
