Orem, UT ( - Fans and players were involved in a melee at the end of Thursday's Western Athletic Conference matchup between New Mexico State and Utah Valley.

After Utah Valley earned a 66-61 overtime victory, New Mexico State's K.C. Ross-Miller fired the ball at the leg of Utah Valley's Holton Hunsaker as the fans stormed the court at the UCCU Center.

New Mexico State's DK Eldridge had to be pulled away by coaches as punches appeared to be thrown by fans.

"I want to apologize for K.C.'s actions," said New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies in an interview posted by the school's website after the game. "From what I understand, he threw the ball after the game was over. I don't know what provoked it. Hunsaker's a little chippy himself, so he may have said something or done something, but you just can't respond. They do things that can get underneath your skin a little bit and you have to be a little tougher mentally.

"I don't know what the suspensions are going to be. There will be a lot of video to sort through. When their fans stormed the court... it convoluted things a little bit. Some of the guys said they felt threatened.

"It's an embarrassing situation."

Menzies said if any of his players were involved, they will be punished "to the 10th degree."

New Mexico State, which now trails first-place Utah Valley by one game in the WAC standings, plays at Cal State-Bakersfield on Saturday.
