Recap: Miami-Florida vs. Georgia Tech

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Shane Larkin had 12 points and Miami- Florida overcame a horrendous shooting first half to beat Georgia Tech, 54-36, in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Durand Scott added 11 points and Rion Brown scored 10 for the sixth-seeded Hurricanes (19-11), who will face No. 3 seed Florida State in the quarterfinals Friday night.

Mfon Udofia scored 13 and Brandon Reed added 11 points for the 11th-seeded Yellow Jackets (11-20), who shot 31.8 percent from the field. Daniel Miller pulled down 10 rebounds and had five blocks in defeat.

A layup from Jason Morris gave Georgia Tech a 20-19 lead in the final minute of the half, and that was the score at the break. The Hurricanes went 6-for-25 from the field over the opening 20 minutes, but turned it around with a huge 18-0 run in the second half.

Reed's two free throws gave the Yellow Jackets a 27-24 lead with just under 15 minutes left, but then came Miami's huge momentum swing. Brown sank back-to- back three-pointers, moving the Hurricanes to a 32-27 edge. Larkin's layup ended the burst inside nine minutes to go.

The Yellow Jackets, who committed 20 turnovers, never threatened the rest of the way.
