Recap: Cal Poly vs. UC Riverside

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Amaurys Fermin scored a game-high 16 points as the Cal Poly Mustangs came back to defeat the UC Riverside Highlanders 66-54 in Big West Conference quarterfinal action at the Honda Center.

David Hanson tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds for fourth-seeded Cal Poly (18-14), who advance to the semifinals for the first time in five seasons and will take on UC Santa Barbara on Friday. Chris Eversley chipped in with 11 points for the Mustangs.

For fifth-seeded UC Riverside (14-17), Phil Martin scored 15 points and Robert Smith added 10 points.

It appeared as though UC Riverside was in control in the first half, as it took a 34-28 lead into intermission.

The Mustangs came out strong in the second half however, as they ripped off a 22-5 run to take a 50-39 lead with 9:28 remaining, and they would never look back from there.

Cal Poly dominated on the glass, outrebounding UC Riverside 38-22. The Mustangs also shot an impressive 18-of-20 from the foul line.
