Recap: Miss State vs. Georgia

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Gerald Robinson posted a game-high 23 points to lead the Georgia Bulldogs to a 71-61 upset victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs in first-round action of the SEC Tournament at New Orleans Arena.

Ken Caldwell-Pope and Dustin Ware added 13 points apiece to help pace the 11th-seeded Georgia (15-16), while the duo of Donte Williams and Nemanja Djurisic chipped in 11 points each, with the latter also responsible for 11 rebounds.

Jalen Steele scored 19 points to lead the way for sixth-seeded Mississippi State (21-11), while Brian Bryant and Dee Bost netted 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Georgia shot at a 50.0 percent clip during the opening 20 minutes of play to earn a 31-29 halftime edge.

Georgia went on a 10-0 run early in the second frame, and at one point led by as many as 13 points, but Mississippi State battled back and got to within three, 60-57, with just over four minutes left to play. That was as close as things would get however, as Georgia surged ahead down the stretch and escaped with a 10-point verdict.

Georgia will face Vanderbilt on Friday in the quarterfinal round.
