Recap: Detroit vs. Youngstown St

Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Ray McCallum scored 22 points and dished out seven assists to lead the third-seeded Detroit Titans to a 93-76 victory over the sixth-seeded Youngstown State Penguins in the second round of the Horizon League Tournament at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Chase Simon scored 14 points for Detroit (20-13) while LaMarcus Lowe netted 13 points. Doug Anderson and Eli Holman both got into the mix as well, as they each had 11 points. Holman also grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Titans advance to the semifinal round, where they will face the second-seeded Cleveland State Vikings on Saturday.

Damian Eargle led Youngstown State (16-15) with 25 points and seven rebounds. DuShawn Brooks added 19 points while Kendrick Perry scored 18 points and handed out five assists.

The Titans came out hot out the game and opened the game on a 16-3 run. Detroit took a 50-34 lead into the intermission after it hit 60.7 percent of its field goals, including 5-of-10 from three-point range in the opening period. The Penguins fell behind despite shooting 52 percent from the floor in the first half.

YSU improved after the break and shot 57.1 percent from the field in the second half. The Penguins were unable to rally, as the Titans made 59.3 percent of their field goals and converted 8-of-10 at the free throw line to stay in front.

The Penguins remain one of two teams in the Horizon League to never win a tournament title, the other being the top-seeded Valparaiso Crusaders.
