Recap: Fairfield vs. Rider

Springfield, MA (Sports Network) - Rakim Sanders scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Fairfield Stags to a 65-63 win over the Rider Broncs in quarterfinal round action of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the MassMutual Center.

Desmond Wade added 12 points and six assists to help pace the fourth-seeded Stags (18-13).

The duo of Jonathan Thompson and Jeff Jones tallied 19 points apiece to lead the way for fifth-seeded Rider (13-19), which also got 11 points from Daniel Stewart.

The Broncs were kept in check to the tune of 30.4 percent shooting during the opening period of play to help Fairfield to a 22-19 halftime edge.

The Stags then hit 46.7 percent of their attempts from the floor over the final 20 minutes to escape with a two-point verdict.

The Broncs shot just 42.6 percent from the floor during the contest and were guilty of a game-high 17 giveaways.

Fairfield advances to the semifinal round on Sunday to face top-seeded Iona.
