Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Trevis Simpson posted a game-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the UNC Greensboro Spartans to a 65-55 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament at U.S. Cellular Arena.

David Williams added 12 points and nine boards to help pace top-seeded UNCG (13-18), while Derrell Armstrong chipped in 11 points off the bench.

The fifth-seeded Mountaineers (13-18) were led by Isaac Butts, who finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards. Jamaal Trice logged 11 points off the bench. Omar Carter found himself back in the starting lineup but shot just 4-of-17 from the floor and finished with 10 points.
