Recap: Elon vs. Ga Southern

Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Jack Isenbarger led the way with 18 points as the Elon Phoenix downed the Georgia Southern Eagles, 65-58, in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament at U.S. Cellular Center.

Ryley Beaumont and Lucas Troutman each added nine points for the second-seeded Phoenix (15-15) who now advance to face top-seeded Davidson in the Sunday semifinal.

Eric Ferguson led the third-seeded Eagles (15-15) with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Willie Powers finished with 10 points and six assists.

Both teams shot well to open the contest, GSU making 47.8 percent from the field. Elon connected on 52.4 percent, as the Phoenix took a 31-27 led into halftime.

After the break the Phoenix stayed hot from the field, hitting 54.2 percent. The Eagles fell off the pace, making just 44.4 percent of their shots from the floor. Elon led for almost the entire second half, but GSU used a late 6-0 run to cut the deficit to just two, 60-58, with 2:19 to play. The Phoenix would not let the Eagles score again however, as the former held on for the tourney victory.

Elon survived 15 turnovers and just 5-of-15 shooting behind the three-point line on the night.
