Recap: New Mexico St vs. Fresno State

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Wendell McKines recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, both of which were game highs, as he helped guide New Mexico State to a 65-49 win over Fresno State in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Orleans Arena.

Also scoring in double figures for the second-seeded Aggies (24-9) were Tyrone Watson and Daniel Mullings with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (13-20) were led by Kevin Foster who scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Kevin Olekaibe contributed 13 points but shot a mere 4-of-16 from the field and 1-of-8 behind the three- point line. Steven Shepp tacked on 10 points, but he too struggled from the floor (3-of-11) and on the perimeter (2-of-7).

Both teams had difficulty shooting the ball in the first half, but even though NMSU made only eight total field goals, 9-of-16 at the free-throw line and missed all seven chances beyond the arc, the Aggies still put up a 25-19 lead at the break.

In the second half New Mexico State built on the lead by converting 16-of-20 at the charity stripe, en route to the double-digit victory.

In addition to limiting Fresno State to a meager 31.4 percent accuracy from the field, the Aggies also handled the Bulldogs rather easily on the glass, 46-29.

With the win the Aggies are into the semifinals on Friday and will battle the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii who earlier in the day defeated Idaho, 72-70.
