Recap: Butler vs. Delaware

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Chrishawn Hopkins scored 19 points, leading four players in double figures, as Butler took care of Delaware, 75-58, in the first round of the 2012 College Basketball Invitational at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Andrew Smith accounted for 17 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (21-14), followed by Ronald Nored and Chase Stigall with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Blue Hens (18-14) were paced by Jarvis Threatt who erupted for a game-high 31 points off the bench, shooting 10-of-14 from the floor, while Devon Saddler added 10 points, but he was also charged with 10 turnovers against just a single assist in the meeting.

Both teams had trouble shooting the ball from the floor overall in the first half, but even though the Bulldogs connected on just 11-of-30 from the field in the frame, five of those conversions came from three-point range as they claimed a 31-23 lead at the break.

The Hens were outscored 11-2 coming out of the break as Butler ran away with the 17-point victory.

In both 2010 and 2011 the Bulldogs, who now advance to the quarterfinals of the tourney against Penn on Monday, not only took part in the NCAA Tournament but appeared in the title game those years, falling to Duke and UConn, respectively.
