Recap: Oregon State vs. Western Ill

Corvallis, OR (Sports Network) - Jared Cunningham scored 22 points, brought in eight rebounds and handed out five assists to lead the Oregon State Beavers in an 80-59 rout of the Western Illinois Leathernecks in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational at Gill Coliseum.

Ahmad Starks put in 16 points, Devon Collier added 12 and Angus Brandt got in the mix with 10 for Oregon State (20-14) which will play TCU in the tournament's second round.

Jeremy McDonald scored 19 points off the bench to pace Western Illinois (18-15) which also got 11 points and five assists from Ceola Clark.

Both teams shot well in the first half with Western Illinois connecting on 54.2 percent from the field. Oregon State was that much better hitting 62.5 percent of its shots in the first twenty minutes to earn the 44-34 lead at halftime.

The Beavers kept it's offensive success going in the second half shooting at a torrid 68.2 percent clip while the Leathernecks slowed to 32.4 percent.

Oregon State held an incredible 37-15 edge on the boards and outscored the Leathernecks 42-20 on points in the paint to overcome 23 turnovers.
