Recap: Albany vs. UMKC

Uncasville, CT (Sports Network) - A pair of free throws by Jacob Iati in the final moments were key as the Albany Great Danes defeated the UMKC Kangaroos, 62-59, in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Iati had a career-high 24 points, a near perfect 9-of-10 foul shooting and 3- of-4 from beyond the arc for the Great Danes (3-1). Also scoring in double figures for the Danes was Mike Black with 16 points, connecting on 10-of-12 at the charity stripe.

The Kangaroos (1-2) were paced by Estan Tyler who scored a team-high 17 points to go along with six assists. Kirk Korver chipped in 16 points and Nate Rogers added another 10 before he fouled out.

UMKC converted only 9-of-28 field goals in the first half, clinging to a 26-23 lead at the half. The Great Danes also had a slow start, shooting just 7-of-21 from the floor.

Albany made progress in the second half, hitting on 47.6 percent from the field (10-of-21). The final 36 seconds of the meeting were controlled by UMKC's Tyler and Albany's Iati as the two scored the final 13 points, with Iati sealing the win by draining two free throws with four seconds remaining.

The Danes converted 5-of-10 from three-point range, while the Kangaroos made only 9-of-22 beyond the arc. Albany will move on to face Loyola-Maryland on Sunday in the championship game of the Springfield bracket.
