Recap: Virginia Tech vs. Rhode Island

Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Erick Green scored 25 points to lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a 69-50 win of the Rhode Island Rams at Cassell Coliseum.

Green hit 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc and added four assists to help guide the Hokies (2-0) to victory. Robert Brown scored 12 points with four assists and Cadarian Raines, who shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, contributed 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Xavier Munford scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss for the Rams (0-2). While Munford knocked down 11-of-22 shots from the floor, the rest of the starters combined to hit just 5-of-26 attempts.

The Hokies opened the meeting on a 13-0 run and led by as many as 14 in the period before settling in with a 36-24 edge at the break. Virginia Tech knocked down five three-pointers in the period, while URI was 0-of-8 from long range.

In the second half the Rams continued their shooting woes on the perimeter as the converted just 1-of-13 from three-point range, en route to the 19-point setback.

James Johnson has now won his first two games as head coach of Virginia Tech, while head coach Dan Hurley has now lost his first two games with the Rams.
