Recap: St Marys-CA vs. Rhode Island

Moraga, CA (Sports Network) - Stephen Holt led five players in double figures as he tallied 17 points for Saint Mary's as the Gaels posted an 82-59 win over the Rhode Island Rams in non-conference play at McKeon Pavilion.

Also having a strong game for the Gaels (9-3) was Matthew Dellavedova with 12 points and 10 assists, followed by Beau Levesque and James Walker III with 14 points apiece and Mitchell Young 10 as the team won for the fifth time in six games.

The Rams (4-8) were paced by Xavier Munford with a game-high 20 points, followed by Andre Malone and Mike Powell with 12 points each as the squad saw a brief two-game win streak come to an end.

A layup by Powell with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half gave the visitors a 26-21 edge over SMC. However, taking advantage of a 14-0 run to close out the period, the Gaels headed into intermission with a 35-26 advantage.

Less than four minutes into the second half, the Rams managed to move to within four points at 40-36, but again the hosts responded by putting together a 7-0 run, eventually cruising to the 23-point win.

In addition to shooting a solid 52.7 percent from the floor, the Gaels also ruled the glass as they produced a huge 42-17 rebounding advantage over a Rams group which cleared a mere three offensive rebounds in the contest.
