Recap: Rhode Island vs. Brown

Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Xavier Munford scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Rhode Island Rams to a 59-47 victory over the Brown Bears during a non-conference battle at the Ryan Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Rams (4-8), as they won for the third time in the last four outings, were Mike Powell and Andre Malone with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

The Bears (4-7), losers of two straight and five of the last six games, were paced by Matt Sullivan with 14 points and Sean McGonagill with 10. Rafael Maia contributed eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss as well.

Brown shot a mere 5-of-20 from the floor in the first half, missing all four chances behind the three-point line, not to mention converting just 4-of-11 at the free-throw line, allowing the hosts to put up a 21-14 lead at the break.

URI went from shooting only 25.8 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes to a more respectable 41.7 percent in the second half in order to secure the 12-point home win.

In addition to connecting on only 11-of-21 at the charity stripe, Brown also shot 30.2 percent from the floor and 4-of-17 beyond the arc.
