Recap: Fordham vs. Rhode Island

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Branden Frazier led all scorers with 20 points, and the Fordham Rams knocked off the Rhode Island Rams, 66-63, in Atlantic 10 Conference action from Rose Hill Gym.

Mandell Thomas tallied 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists to help Fordham (6-14, 2-3 A-10) snap a three-game slide. Travion Leonard contributed 13 points and eight boards in the victory.

Mike Powell paced URI (6-12, 1-4) with 14 points, while Andre Malone finished with 12. Nikola Malesevic, Xavier Munford and T.J. Buchanan each scored 10 in the loss.

URI shot only 8-of-22 from the floor (.364) in the opening frame, but the Rams held a 13-2 scoring edge at the foul line to claim a slim, 32-31 halftime lead.

That trend was reversed in the second half, as Fordham shot just 9-of-29 from the floor (.310) but outscored URI at the charity stripe, 17-8.

Fordham used its size advantage to win the rebounding battle, 45-34, and that included a key 19-7 edge on the offensive glass.
