Recap: Rhode Island vs. Xavier

Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Travis Taylor scored 13 points and corralled a career-best 17 rebounds to lead the Xavier Musketeers to a 55-42 win over the Rhode Island Rams in an Atlantic 10 Conference showdown at the Ryan Center.

Semaj Christon netted 16 points to lead Xavier (15-10, 8-4 A-10), which has won three of its last four contests.

Xavier Munford paced Rhode Island (8-17, 3-9) with 15 points but shot just 5- of-17 from the floor.

Rhode Island went scoreless for the first 5:12 of action until Munford nailed a triple to end a 7-0 Xavier run. Rhode Island rallied from that point on and led 23-22 at halftime despite shooting just 26.9 percent from the floor.

After trading buckets during the early stages of the second half, Xavier pulled away thanks to a 10-0 run midway through the period. Rhode Island managed just nine points in the final 15:35 of action.

Xavier outrebounded Rhode Island, 45-29, and held the Rams to 24.1 percent shooting for the game.
