Recap: Rhode Island vs. Massachusetts

Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Chaz Williams recorded a double-double with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Massachusetts Minutemen defeated the Rhode Island Rams, 75-66, in Atlantic 10 action at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.With this win, UMass sealed their seeding in the upcoming conference tournament.

Freddie Riley scored 18 points for the Minutemen (19-10, 9-7 A-10). Terrell Vinson added 10 points and four boards. Cady Lalanne contributed eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds as UMass won for the third time in four games.

For the Rams (8-21, 3-13), Xavier Munford scored a game-high 21 points. Andre Malone chipped in 19 points and five boards. Nikola Malesevic added 11 points as Rhode Island moved to a five game losing streak.

In the first half, Rhode Island made 37 percent from the floor including 4- of-12 from long-range. UMass knocked down 42.9 percent of its field goal tries including 5-of-11 beyond the arc, en route to the 37-33 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor and 3- point range. Rhode Island only made 2-of-7 from the foul line. UMass converted 8-of-13 at the free-throw line as it took the nine-point victory.

UMass controlled the boards, 40-26, and made 11-of-20 beyond the arc on the day.
