Recap: Duke vs. Georgia State

Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Mason Plumlee recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds on Friday night, as No. 8 Duke opened its season with a 74-55 triumph over Georgia State at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Plumlee also blocked four shots, while Seth Curry added 15 points and Tyler Thornton netted 13 points for the Blue Devils (1-0), who were coming off a 27- win season that ended in disappointment, as they were upset by 15th-seeded Lehigh in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Blue Devils have now won 95 straight non-conference home games, the longest such streak in the nation.

"We're really excited about it," Curry said of Duke's matchup against third- ranked Kentucky on Tuesday. "It's going to be a good test for us and we'll see what we need to improve on. It's good for me and the other guys and the younger guys to be on a big stage early and get that experience."

Devonta White paced the Panthers (0-1) with 19 points and freshman R.J. Hunter, whose father, Ron is the Panthers' head coach, added 14 points and 10 boards for a Georgia State squad that won 22 games last season.

"As a dad, he gets his allowance and as a coach, he has to keep working," Georgia State coach Ron Hunter joked of coaching his son. "I'm proud of him. I know coaches aren't supposed to say this, but as a father, I'm really proud."

R.J. Hunter finished a layup to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead less than 30 seconds into the game, but Duke netted the next eight points and never trailed again.

Georgia State got as close as two later in the first at 17-15 before the Blue Devils distanced themselves with a 13-2 run and carried a 32-22 advantage into the locker room.

The lead ballooned in the second half, as Curry and Rasheed Sulaimon buried back-to-back 3-pointers to start the final 20 minutes.

Duke's advantage never dipped below double-digits in the second half and reached 22 at its peak on a Curry triple as the Blue Devils cruised to the victory.

Game Notes

It was the first ever meeting between the two teams ... It was Plumlee's 19th career double-double ... Sulaimon finished six points, four rebounds and four assists for the Blue Devils.
