Recap: Wake Forest vs. Georgia Tech

Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Robert Carter, Jr. finished with 10 points, including the game-winning pair of free throws with eight seconds remaining, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took down the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 57-56, in Atlantic Coast Conference action at Joel Coliseum.

Marcus Georges-Hunt led all scorers with 16 points for Georgia Tech (14-10, 4-8 ACC), while Daniel Miller added 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks.

For Wake Forest (11-14, 4-9), Travis McKie and C.J. Harris each netted 15 points, while Devin Thomas tallied nine points and 12 rebounds. The Demon Deacons, who shot just 29.2 percent from the field, have lost six of their last seven contests.

Georgia Tech shot 44.8 percent from the field in the first half and took a 30-27 lead into intermission. Wake Forest shot less than 30 percent in the opening 20 minutes, but it kept the game close by going 10-of-11 from the foul line.

The Demon Deacons opened the second half on a 10-2 run to take a five-point lead, and they clung to a single-digit advantage for most of the frame. With Georgia Tech trailing by three, 56-53, with under a minute remaining, Georges- Hunt converted a layup to make its deficit just one. Following an empty possession by Wake Forest, Carter, Jr. was fouled after corralling an offensive rebound, and he drilled 2-of-2 from the free-throw line to give the Yellow Jackets the lead. Wake Forest was left with one last opportunity to win the game, but a Thomas jumper in the waning seconds did not fall.

Wake Forest finished the game with more turnovers (17) than field goals (14).
