Recap: Texas State vs. Fordham

San Marcos, TX (Sports Network) - Joel Wright led five Bobcats in double- figures with a team-high 19 points, leading Texas State to a 86-76 season- opening victory over the Fordham Rams at Strahan Coliseum.

Wright registered a double-double for Texas State (1-0) with 12 rebounds and was joined in double-figure scoring by Matt Staff's 17 points, Corey Stern's 16, and Vonn Jones and Wesley Davis with 10 each.

The Rams (0-1) failed to capitalize on a strong performance by Chris Gaston who finished with 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, although he also turned the ball over seven times. Branden Frazier added 18 points while Bryan Smith chipped in 16 in the loss.

The Bobcats outscored Fordham 41-34 in the first half as the Rams shot just 1- of-5 behind the three-point line and 7-of-16 at the charity stripe.

The Rams played a more competitive second half but were still outscored 15-7 at the free-throw line.

Both teams had problems handling the ball as the Rams suffered 23 turnovers and the Bobcats 18 miscues.
