Recap: Northwestern vs. Maryland

Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Alex Len was a force in the middle for Maryland as the Terrapins completed a 77-57 rout of the Northwestern Wildcats at Welsh-Ryan Arena in this year's edition of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Len recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds for Maryland (5-1) as it reeled off its fifth win in a row. Dez Wells scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor, Nick Faust added 10 points, and Pe'Shon Howard dished out six assists to contribute to the victory.

Reggie Hearn paced Northwestern (6-1) with 19 points. Dave Sobolewski got into the mix by scoring 14 points and Drew Crawford tallied 10 points in the Wildcats' inaugural loss of the season.

The contest remained close in the opening frame until Faust drained a three- pointer at the 5:45 mark to put the Terps up 26-18. Northwestern managed to narrow the deficit by closing out the period on an 8-2 run. The Wildcats struggled to score points before the break as they converted only 3-of-16 from three-point range. Maryland shot only 36 percent from the floor in the first half, but made all nine of its free throw attempts to take a 28-26 advantage into the intermission.

Northwestern was unable to overcome the visitor's tremendous defensive effort and converted just 36 percent of its field goal attempts in the second half. The Terps created some distance on the scoreboard by shooting 66.7 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.

Maryland held a dominant 47-19 advantage in the rebounding battle to end the Wildcats' four-game winning streak in annual event.
