Recap: Miami-Florida vs. Maryland

Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Kenny Kadji tallied 14 points as the Miami Hurricanes topped the Maryland Terrapins, 54-47, in ACC action at BankUnited Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Hurricanes (12-3, 3-0 ACC), now tied with NC State for first place in the league standings, was Trey McKinney- Jones. He registered 12 points while also logging eight rebounds and seven assists, while Shane Larkin finished with 10 points, six assists and three steals.

Leading the way for the Terrapins (13-3, 1-2), who lost their second straight outing after putting together a 13-game win streak, was Dez Wells with a game-high 18 points. Alex Len chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds in the setback.

Scoring was at a premium in this meeting, particularly in the first half, as Maryland recorded just 11 points through the first 18 minutes of action. The visitors shot a mere 6-of-28 from the floor in the period and missed all six chances behind the 3-point line, yet trailed by only five points at the break at 19-14.

Miami wasn't much better through the first 20 minutes of action, as it missed all four opportunities at the free-throw line and converted just 3-of-12 chances beyond the arc.

Maryland went long stretches without scoring again in the second half, although the Terps did manage to cut the deficit down to just four points at 48-44 with 40 seconds remaining. That prompted the Hurricanes to put together a 6-0 run in order to create some distance between themselves and Maryland down the stretch.

The 'Canes picked up the victory despite shooting just 34.9 percent from the floor, hitting 5-of-20 shots from the perimeter and going 5-of-13 at the charity stripe.

The scoring output for Maryland was the team's lowest since being blown out by Virginia on the road, 71-44, on Feb. 18, 2012.

This marked the third time this season that the Hurricanes have held an opponent under 50 points, having limited Georgia Tech to 49 last Saturday and Charlotte a season-low 46 in the middle of December.
