Recap: Virginia Tech vs. Maryland

Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Jake Layman scored 14 points as the Maryland Terrapins defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies, 60-55, in an Atlantic Coast Conference clash at the Cassell Coliseum.

Layman shot 3-of-7 from 3-point range for the Terps (17-6, 5-5 ACC), who won their second straight game. Alex Len added 10 points, while James Padgett led all players with 11 boards to go with his eight points.

Virginia Tech's (11-11, 2-7) Erick Green poured in 29 points to go with three steals as the Hokies lost their fifth consecutive game. Cadarian Raines added 14 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor.

After both teams shot below 35 percent from the field in the first half, Virginia Tech carried a 27-24 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Hokies' shooting woes continued while Maryland improved to 46.2 percent from the floor, outscoring Virginia Tech after intermission, 36-28, to capture the win.

The Terps won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Hokies, 46-39, while also holding Virginia Tech to just 2-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc.
