Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Troy Daniels netted 29 points to lead the Virginia Commonwealth Rams to an 81-65 win over the Fordham Rams in an Atlantic 10 bout at the Siegel Center.

Bryan Smith led Fordham (6-16, 2-5) with 17 points as the visiting Rams lost in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Mandell Thomas added 16 points and nine rebounds and Jermaine Myers added 11 points off the bench.

VCU struggled to find the range in the first half, connecting on just 28.2 percent of its shots. However, it corralled nine offensive rebounds in the opening period and forced 11 Fordham turnovers. VCU led 38-33 at the break.

The hosting Rams scored the first seven points of the second half and built their lead to as many as 24 points due in large part to a Daniels' sequence where he hit three consecutive triples.
