Recap: Dayton vs. UAB

Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Josh Benson scored 20 points and Kevin Dillard had a double-double as the Dayton Flyers topped the UAB Blazers, 78-71, in non-conference action at UD Arena.

Dillard scored 14 points and handed out 10 assists for Dayton (10-4) which had lost two of its previous three games. Vee Sanford added 19 points and Devin Oliver chipped in with 11 points.

Rod Rucker had a 20-point, 15-rebound double-double for UAB (8-7) which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Terence Jones added 17 points, Jordan Swing contributed 12 and Fahro Alihodzic chipped in 10.

In the first half Dayton shot 45.5 percent from the field and used a 10-1 advantage from the free throw line to take a 44-35 lead at halftime. UAB connected on 51.7 percent of its shots in the first half.

Both teams cooled off in the second half with the Flyers shooting just 37.5 percent which was enough to best the Blazers who shot just 30.6 percent.

The Blazers lost despite a 40-36 edge on the boards.
