Recap: La Salle vs. Dayton

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Ramon Galloway scored 18 points, dished out five assists, and swiped four steals to lead the La Salle Explorers as they held on for a 72-70 victory over the Dayton Flyers in an Atlantic 10 Conference tussle at Tom Gola Arena.

Jerrell Wright posted 16 points and five rebounds for La Salle (12-4, 2-1 A-10) as it picked up its second win in a row. Tyreek Duren finished with 14 points and six teams while Tyrone Garland provided a spark off the bench with 11 points.

Vee Sanford and Dyshawn Pierre scored 13 points each for Dayton (10-7, 0-3) as it suffered its third consecutive setback. Kevin Dillard chimed in with 12 points, all of which came from beyond the arc.

In a very close first half, Dayton hit 50 percent of its shots from the field and 7-of-10 at the charity stripe. The Explorers took a slight 35-33 lead into the intermission by draining 48.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

La Salle was not able to pull away and the Flyers took a 54-52 lead after Sanford drilled a 3-pointer with 2:43 showing on the clock. Wright put the hosts back up with a traditional three-point play, but Devon Scott made the back end of a trip to the free throw line to tie it up at 55 with under two minutes remaining in regulation. Galloway put La Salle ahead for good by sinking a pair of free throws. Dayton had a chance in the closing seconds, but Dillard missed a 3-pointer as time expired which sealed the win for La Salle.

Despite the loss, the Flyers enjoyed a 35-21 edge in the rebounding battle. Dayton was guilty of 24 turnovers which La Salle converted into 26 points.
