Recap: Rutgers vs. George Washington

Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - Myles Mack knocked down a pair of free throws with 8.2 seconds remaining to give Rutgers some breathing room as the Scarlet Knights registered a 68-65 win over the George Washington Colonials in non-conference play at The RAC.

Mack finished the outing with 13 points, one of four players in double figures for the Scarlet Knights (6-2) as they won their second straight and the sixth in the last seven games. Eli Carter scored a game-high 19 points, Kadeem Jack tacked on 12 off the bench and Dane Miller chipped in 10 points in the victory as well.

The Colonials (4-6) were paced by Isaiah Armwood with 18 points, seven rebounds, four blocked shots, three assists and three steals in an effort to offset five turnovers as the team lost for the third time in as many tries. Patricio Garino and Lasan Kromah both tallied 10 points and Kevin Larsen nine and a game-high 11 rebounds in a reserve role.

Leading by as many as 15 in the first half, the Knights knocked down 43.2 percent from the floor in the period in order to take a 37-30 advantage at the break.

In the second half Rutgers again shot about 43 percent from the field, but the team missed all seven chances from beyond the arc which left the outcome in doubt.

Trailing by four points, 66-62, the Colonials turned to Garino who knocked down a 3-pointer with 9.1 seconds left to cut the difference to just a single point. After Mack moved the advantage back to three points for the hosts Garino, who was charged with eight turnovers, had one last chance to prolong the game, but his 3-point try from the top of the key came hard off the backboard as time ran out.

George Washington easily won the rebounding battle, 45-29, coming up with 20 boards at the offensive end of the floor, but it still wasn't enough as the Colonials were saddled with 23 turnovers in the contest.
