Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - C.J. Reed scored 22 points to help the Georgia Southern Eagles give the Virginia Tech Hokies their first home loss of the season, by a score of 78-73, in the preliminary round of the Las Vegas Classic.

Reed was 8-of-16 from the field and knocked down 5-of-9 three-point attempts as the Eagles (4-5) won their second in a row, and just their second road win out of six this season. Cleon Roberts contributed 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting with four made three-pointers while Cameron Baskerville added 12 points. Eric Ferguson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Jarell Eddie added 21 points and eight rebounds but struggled from deep range as he hit only 3-of-13 three- point attempts. C.J. Barksdale tallied 10 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.

The Eagles led 35-27 at the break after making seven three-pointers while the Hokies were 0-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Virginia Tech outscored Georgia Southern 46-43 in the second half as both teams shot just above 48 percent from the field.

The Eagles' bench supplied only two points in the entire game but the performances from the starting lineup proved to be enough to earn the upset victory.
