Recap: Saint Louis vs. Valparaiso

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Just a day after the death of their head coach Rick Majerus, the Saint Louis Billikens returned to the court to claim a 62-49 win over the Valparaiso Crusaders at Chaifetz Arena.

Majerus left the team earlier in the season due to health concerns and he passed away on Saturday from a heart condition at the age of 64. Jim Crews has been serving as interim head coach.

Dwayne Evans led the way with 17 points for Saint Louis (4-3). Jordair Jett tallied 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, while Mike McCall, Jr. added 10 points.

For Valparaiso (5-2), Ryan Broekhoff, Kevin Van Wijk, and Matt Kenney scored 10 points apiece.

The Billikens shot 52.6 percent from the floor in the first half on its way to a 31-24 lead at intermission.

Saint Louis would not surrender its lead after halftime, and it led by as many as 16 points in the second half.

The Crusaders went just 15-of-46 from the field in the game (.326) and committed 18 turnovers.
